Ever wonder how lenders find out about a property?  As mortgage lenders, we need to know all kinds of things about a property before we can submit a loan file to underwriting for approval.  In order to get accurate information about a property, we use a public records site.

This site will tell you just about everything you would ever want to know about a property.  It’s free, it’s easy to use, and the site has the public records information that various government entities collect about different properties.  If you are going to be buying a house, or if you are just curious, this is the place to go.

How Lenders Find Out About a Property

Once you are on the home page, click on the state where the property is located, and then click on the County Assessor link.  From there, enter the property address and you will be taken to the file that the county has on the property. If you are having trouble with a search, remember that the less amount of information you enter in the search field, the better.

To find out about the property taxes for a property, click on the County Treasurer link instead of the County Assessor link.

If you need to get information about various documents that have been recorded related to the property, click on the County Recorder link instead.
